Teacher preparation for today鈥檚 diverse classrooms

Our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for individuals with a bachelor鈥檚 degree who are pursuing their first teaching license in elementary or secondary education. Our curriculum seamlessly connects educational research with classroom practice, empowering educators to refine their skills to meet the needs of all students. You’ll earn your initial teaching license partway through the program, followed by an additional endorsement in the high-need field of teaching English language learners. By the end of the program, you’ll be licensed in two areas and equipped with the expertise to support the learning and growth of all your students.

Those who wish to stop at initial licensure should apply to our Transition to Teaching program to earn a graduate certificate. Not sure which path to take? That鈥檚 okay. Transition to Teaching students can return within five years to finish the full Master鈥檚 degree.

Licensed teachers can apply for a graduate certificate in Teaching English Language Learners.

Cost

The total cost for this program is dependent on the chosen track. Currently, the cost of the program is $525 per credit hour.

The MAT in elementary education costs $18,900-$19,425 for the 36-37 credits needed to earn the degree.
The MAT in secondary education costs $15,750-$16,275 for the 30-31 credits needed for completion.
Students are billed by the semester and can set up a payment plan. We will also direct you to state, community, and internal scholarships to help offset the cost.

Classes and Format

All classes are remote. During the academic year, weekly class meetings allow you to connect with professors and colleagues in real time. During the summer, there are no required class meetings, but weekly due dates help you stay on track.

Most classes contain schools-based teaching requirements as well. For those not currently working in schools, we will work with you to arrange placements where you can complete assignments in another teacher鈥檚 classroom.

English Learners (EL) Licensure

In your final year of the MAT program, you will focus on the knowledge and skills needed to teach English language learners. Upon passing the Praxis content test, you’ll be eligible to add this content area to your Indiana teaching license.

This聽 license add-on can also be completed as a standalone graduate certificate in the Teaching English Language Learners program.
